Mapping—and building—a fairer future for Atlanta and the South
Nathaniel Q. Smith is the founder and chief equity officer of the Partnership for Southern Equity (PSE), an organization working toward racial equity and shared prosperity for everyone in metro Atlanta and across the American South.
PSE’s work centers on three areas: energy equity, economic inclusion and equitable development. Under Nathaniel’s leadership, it created the Metro Atlanta Equity Atlas—the first equity-mapping tool in the South—giving communities and decision-makers a clearer picture of who has access to opportunity, and who doesn’t.
Results you can ride
PSE brought together a diverse coalition to back a $13 million transit referendum that extended MARTA into a new county—the first such expansion in 45 years. And in 2023, the organization received a $3.5 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund to support urban greening across the Atlanta region.
